Steps to Evangelism

Evangelism is the spreading of Jesus’s message—the gospel—to others so that they may achieve salvation. There are many evangelists working to help save unbelievers, but becoming an evangelist isn’t something that just happens overnight. So how do people get involved with evangelism and start to spread the gospel themselves? In this article, we’ll share some of the main steps to evangelism.

Basic Steps in Evangelism

• Study the Bible - When you’re learning new things, it’s important to study the relevant materials so you are knowledgeable and prepared. When seeking to become an evangelist, that means studying the Bible. Since Jesus’s message is contained within the Bible, it’s an essential part of understanding how to spread His word to others. In fact, there are many instructions about evangelism in the Bible. In John 4 alone, there are a multitude of lessons about evangelism that are shared through the interaction between Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, including being open, meeting people where they are, using common interests, and more.
  
• Pray - Another step to evangelism is to pray. Spreading Jesus’s message to others doesn’t mean much if you don’t have a relationship with Him, God, and the Holy Spirit yourself. Speaking with God should be a central part of your life. It also provides you a way to ask for guidance and for opportunities to share the gospel, so you can seek God’s help during your efforts as well.
  
• Be Available - The next step involves making yourself available to others and putting yourself in situations where you are around unbelievers. If there is no one around you who needs to hear the life-saving message of the gospel, then what is the point of evangelizing? You are working to save those who don’t believe, so you have to seek them out and actively be around them. You should also talk about the gospel openly and often in your interactions with others, whether they are strangers or friends and family.
  
• Care for Others - Another step to becoming an evangelist is caring for others. Talking to and bonding with other people is an essential part of evangelism, so it’s something that should be a big part of your life. Take the time to learn about others, use common points of interest to enter into spiritual conversations with them, don’t discriminate or judge them, and accept them where they are.
  
• Be Steadfast - A crucial step to evangelism is to be steadfast. There will be many times when people don’t believe what you are saying, and some may even mock and ridicule you. This doesn’t matter because you know you are doing the Lord’s work and trying to help His children achieve salvation. Be true to yourself and your faith, and stay persistent even when things are challenging.
