What Does the Bible Say About Evangelism?

Evangelism—also known as “witnessing”—is the spreading of the gospel to others. This is in order to share the Word of God with His children so that they may find salvation. A key part of evangelism is using the teachings and messages from the Bible to instruct others and bring them to the faith. When evangelists use specific quotes, passages, and verses from the Bible it can also be referred to as biblical evangelism. So, what does the Bible say about evangelism?

Bible Verses About Evangelism

There are many examples of evangelism in the Bible, with Jesus himself being the greatest evangelist of all. Perhaps the most well-known Bible verse about evangelism comes from Mark 16:15-16 — “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.’”

But there are many other Bible verses on evangelism. Here are some of the top examples:

Matthew 28:19-20 — “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

2 Timothy 4:5 — “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

1 Peter 3:15 — “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…”

2 Corinthians 5:20 — “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

1 Corinthians 1:17 — “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.”

John 5:24 - “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”

These passages are only a few of the many examples of evangelism in the Bible. A large share of these teachings even come from Jesus himself. That’s why it is so important to heed these words and spread them to the rest of God’s Children by evangelizing, so that they may achieve salvation.
