What Was Jesus’ Message?

What Was Jesus’ Message?

God sent Jesus—His only Son—to Earth in order to save us from sin. During His time here, Jesus had many important teachings, such as loving God, loving one another, caring for the poor and sick, forgiving others, repenting for our sins, and more. But, while these are all incredibly important messages from Jesus, many of these things had already been covered in the Ten Commandments and throughout the rest of the Bible. So, what was Jesus’ message, the reason He was sent by God?

What Was Jesus’ Main Message?

While nearly everything Jesus said or did was in some way an important message, there is one message that stands above the rest. Jesus’ message to the world was that the Kingdom of God is near and that God’s children must prepare themselves for salvation—eternal life.

This message is clear when you look at the New Testament of the Bible. In the New Testament Gospels, the phrase “kingdom of God” appears 53 times. Similarly, the phrase “kingdom of heaven” appears 32 times in the Gospel of Matthew. This shows that Jesus was sent to share this message above all others. Here are a few examples of Jesus doing so in the Bible:

Mark 1:14-15 — “Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.'

Luke 4:43 — “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.”

Mark 4:30-32 — “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.

Luke 17:20-21 — “Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, ‘The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, nor will they say, “Look, here it is!” or “There!” for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.’”

John 3:3 — “Jesus answered him, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.’”

Jesus’ message of salvation is evident throughout all of these passages and is perhaps the most important reason He was sent by God. Through His teachings, Jesus made people aware of the Kingdom of God and explained what they needed to do to achieve salvation. GO! Evangelism Ministry is following in Jesus’ footsteps to spread this crucial message.
